This SpaceX Redesign was done in a week sprint as I was starting to learn more about UX/UI and start to hone in my skills.
The Goal: SpaceX is quickly becoming one of the biggest brands in the world due to its popular space launches and innovative technology. However, even with a recent official website redesign, the website is not entirely user friendly to someone who is newer to SpaceX and space science lingo.
The Challenge: It's SpaceX, this has to be something that fits in with their standard but also allows for an easier and more enjoyable user experience
The Outcome: As one of my first projects, SpaceX taught me alot about public perception and the need for good UX, and while some users might just love a flashy screen, it's the experience they have getting to that flashy screen, that makes it stand out.
UX Audit and Competitive Audit:
Taking a look at the current live version of the website to spot any areas that need improvement. Then taking a look at companies and brands similar to SpaceX and seeing what works for them.
Social Listening:
What are people saying about SpaceX and its current website? A lot of the general conversation was about not knowing much about SpaceX because there isn't one main hub for information.
General Data:
As said before, SpaceX is pretty tight knit on their privacy so I had to go with data centered around space, science and the community surrounding them.
Sketches:
I had a lot of ideas for the overhaul of the navigation and the fastest way to get them all out visually was to sketch them out on paper.
Wireframing:
The best way to see the new navigation coming to life is through building out a complete wireframe user flow.
Lo-Fi User Testing:
To get a feel for how users are reacting to the design, a little bit of user testing in wireframes will give me the direction I need.
High Fidelity Mockups and Interaction Design:
A simple home page mockup to test how the elements and navigation work together with full color, or for spacex, a lack thereof. They let their pictures do the talking and that is not a bad thing.
